Is it happening right now?
Three steps right away: stop the exchange with the suspicious person, don’t delete anything (evidence is fragile), and if a payment is involved, call your bank through an official channel. Then let us guide you: we call you back Monday to Friday from 8 am to 7 pm and Saturday from 8 am to 12 noon, with no commitment.
Which situation applies to you?
Choose the case closest to what you are seeing. Each page sets out the first actions, the items to keep and the situations in which it is better to ask for help.
Bank fraud & fake adviser
A call supposedly from your bank, an urgent request to confirm something, a transfer or a payee added. These manipulations catch out even very careful people. Contact your bank straight away. Reporting early protects your file. For information, the law in principle allows up to 13 months to dispute an unauthorised transaction within the EEA.
- Call your bank through an official channel (number on the back of your card).
- Have your card, transfers or access blocked if necessary.
- Don’t call back the number shown; keep texts and notifications.
Fake tech support
A fake alert, a Microsoft, Apple or antivirus “support” number, then someone taking control through AnyDesk, TeamViewer or RemotePC. It’s not about how good you are with computers: it’s exactly what these scammers set out to cause.
- End the remote session, and disconnect from the internet if it is active.
- Don’t install anything else, don’t give out any code.
- Note the name of the tool used, and keep the evidence before cleaning up.
Hacked account
Email, social media, customer account or cloud: when an account slips out of your control, changing the password is not always enough. In most cases, you can take it back and close the doors left open.
- From a clean device: a new password + two-factor authentication.
- Sign out of unknown sessions, check forwarding rules.
- Check the recovery addresses; warn your contacts if needed.
Compromised phone
Dubious texts, an unknown app, odd permissions, or a hijacked SIM card. Your phone receives your codes and your bank alerts: it is a way in that needs securing first.
- Check recent apps and their permissions.
- Check call/text forwarding; call your operator if you suspect a SIM problem.
- Change sensitive passwords from another device.
Identity theft
Accounts or applications opened in your name, a message sent by someone pretending to be you. The point is not to explain everything at once, but to establish, trace and document.
- Gather the evidence: letters, emails, notifications, dates.
- Report it to the organisations concerned, and monitor your linked accounts.
- Prepare a clear timeline before taking any step.
Blackmail / sextortion
A threat to share intimate images, a countdown, a demand for money. It’s brutal, and paying almost always makes things worse.
- Don’t pay, stop replying: paying brings more demands.
- Keep everything (screenshots, profiles, links, dates) before blocking the person.
- Report it (PHAROS, Cybermalveillance.gouv.fr), file a police report; under 18? call 3018.
